# Amplicity

> Amplicity is the edge-native control layer for industrial battery systems. It turns existing industrial and backup batteries into revenue-generating assets - cutting on-site energy costs and earning from energy markets, without compromising backup duty. No upfront capital; performance-based fees.

Amplicity optimises battery dispatch for industrial and commercial sites: peak shaving, tariff optimisation, and load shifting to reduce energy bills, plus participation in energy and grid-services (ancillary) markets to generate revenue - all while preserving backup (UPS) capability. Amplicity is based in Singapore.

- [Southeast Asia’s data center operators are sitting on an undervalued energy asset](https://amplicity.energy/news/southeast-asia-s-data-center-operators-are-sitting-on-an-undervalued-energy-asset): UPS batteries sit idle 99% of the time. That model was defensible when grids were stable and energy was cheap. It isn't anymore. We examine how capacity drift, regulatory pressure and rising tariffs have turned passive UPS management into an audit liability, and why the same batteries can offset a meaningful share of total energy costs.

- [Backup floor](https://amplicity.energy/glossary/backup-floor): The minimum state-of-charge the battery must always retain to meet its backup obligation to the site. Amplicity's dispatch layer never crosses it.
- [Behind-the-meter (BTM)](https://amplicity.energy/glossary/behind-the-meter): A battery installed on the customer's side of the utility meter - a customer asset rather than a grid asset.
- [BESS](https://amplicity.energy/glossary/bess): Battery Energy Storage System - the general term for a stationary battery installation and its balance of plant.
- [Contestable retail](https://amplicity.energy/glossary/contestable-retail): A retail contract negotiated directly with a licensed retailer, as an alternative to the default MSSL tariff in Singapore.
- [Demand charge](https://amplicity.energy/glossary/demand-charge): The portion of an industrial electricity bill based on the site's peak draw rather than total consumption.
- [Edge-native control](https://amplicity.energy/glossary/edge-native-control): Control logic that runs on-site (at the edge) rather than in the cloud - required for fast market participation and for maintaining backup readiness without cloud dependency.
