FCAS

Frequency Control Ancillary Services - the ancillary services market run by AEMO in Australia's NEM.

Frequency Control Ancillary Services (FCAS) is the ancillary services market run by AEMO in Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM). It has two large categories:

Contingency FCAS - fast-response products that activate during a frequency deviation event (raise or lower, at 6-second, 60-second, and 5-minute response horizons: R6, R60, R5 and L6, L60, L5).

Regulation FCAS - continuous services that follow AEMO's regulation signal in real time (RREG, LREG).

Batteries are the natural fit for contingency FCAS in particular. Fast lithium batteries can go from zero to nameplate output in under 200 milliseconds, well inside the response window for even the fastest products.

Amplicity qualifies our customers' batteries (via an aggregator partner) for the FCAS products best suited to their specific asset and site constraints.

In Australia

FCAS is settled every 5 minutes in the NEM. Capacity payments are made per MW enabled per settlement interval; activation payments are made per MWh delivered during an event.
